Effort designed to improve and standardize professional standards for those who counsel consumers
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today announced it will require that housing counselors participating in HUD programs to be certified to offer counseling services to consumers. In order to become certified, housing counselors must pass a standardized written examination and work for a HUD-approved housing counseling agency (HCA).
Caller had called before and was still having the same issue - the visuals for the animated training were not appearing (aside from the menu and progress bar). Her tablet and the library computer were having the same issue. Support showed her the PDF guides so that she could study them online or print them.
The Caller asked how she could take the certification exam. I explained that the Final Rule had not been published and so the exam was not available. She asked if there was a certificate she could get to put forward as evidence when the exam became available and I said no. She wonder then what the training was good for and I explained that when the exam because available it would based on the topics in the training and that those topics were defined by the law to be subjects housing counselors should have a basic competency in.
