I went to take an exam on 9/21/18. The very first question involved calculations. I read the question, and went to the calculator to work the problem. When I looked at the calculator, it only showed the addition symbol. The other math symbols for multiplication, division, subtraction and the +/- symbol all had a question mark in its place and not the actual symbol. I probably spent a good 20 minutes trying to resolve the calculator problem at the testing site. They got on the phone with someone and was told they couldn't give me a calculator to use since the one on the computer was messed up. I was then told that I would have to contact whomever I set up my test through if I didn't feel comfortable. I decided then to try to do basic math calculations like 2 x 4 = 8, etc, etc. and at that point I felt somewhat more comfortable that I may be fine with going forward even though the calculator wasn't showing all the math symbols. I honestly felt like the test was rigged because even the writing pad said any notes saved here would not be saved and after every question, the notes I had on the screen from the previous question was still there. It only erased if I highlighted and deleted my notes. I found out I missed passing the exam by 4 points! At that moment I felt like I was cheated and maybe I actually did pass. Either way, I carried on my day and took it as I was VERY CLOSE even with a messed up calculator! I didn't pursue reaching out to anyone because I had decided I would take it again but this time at a different testing site, not the same one I went to. I took the test on that Monday, by the end of the week Friday night - hudhousingcounselor.org sends me a cancellation confirmation notice that I got a $100 refund for the HUD exam. Wow, I am so grateful!! Thank you. I really felt like I passed the exam as I was so close. I was hoping maybe I really did pass it too. My main question today is What was the reason for the refund? Was it because of the calculator?
