Hello.
I work at HUD's DC Field Office as a Management Analyst, but my last day is tomorrow so don't feel pressure to follow up with this because I likely won't be around. I recently sent an email to housing.counseling@hud.gov (ticket: 06507739) with an issue and a request.
FHA's follow-up seemed as if it was handled by a poorly vetted generative AI and completely missed the mark. The following message is an attempt to provide feedback for your service to improve how customers interact with HUD services.
My issue: The phone number at the bottom of hudhousingcounselors.hud.gov (800) 347-3735) takes the caller to the OIG hotline. It is misrouted and should be removed or updated so as to not mislead clients. If the preferred number for contacting HUD Housing Counselors about becoming a counselor is the FHA Resource Center, then please update it to reflect that.
Request: Please contact customer Daniel Obrego at 206-437-5314. He has questions about becoming a HUD Housing Counselor as it related to potential conflicts of interest with his current job at a bank. He lives in Washington State and decided to call the Washington, DC, Field Office because the misrouted phone number listed at the bottom of hudhousingcounselors.hud.gov did not work and he wanted immediate answers. He apparently thought DC Field Office is HQ and that we had something to do with the inaccurate phone number, which makes us all look bad.
Thank you for your assistance. Your work is very much appreciated.
