Dear Lynell,

We provide information for the Housing Counselor Certification exam as well as the Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) Counselor Exam. Below is information on becoming a HECM Counselor. If you are looking for different information related to HUD policies or updates, please contact your agency's HUD Point of Contact (POC), visit HUD.gov, or call 800 333 4636.

Only HECM counselors who meet the eligibility criteria listed below may apply. An eligible HECM Counselor must:

  1. Have passed HUD's HECM Counseling Exam.  Register for HUD's HECM Counseling Exam. HECM Housing Counselors will also be required to successfully pass the HUD Certification Exam upon publication of the Final Rule.
     
  2. Have successfully completed at least one training course related to HECM counseling within the past two years
     
  3. NOT be listed on the General Services Administration's Excluded Parties List System (EPLS), HUD's Limited Denial of Participation List (LDP), or HUD's Credit Alert Interactive Voice Response System (CAIVRS)
     
  4. Be employed by a HUD-approved housing counseling agency as a certified HUD Housing Counselor

If you are a new applicant, you must apply online by uploading the application and proof of your successful completion of the HECM training course(s) listed on your application in PDF format.

Hello I wanted to know if you know where I go to get the Reverse Mortgage Certificate that is for proprietary loans?
