In order to be certified, an individual must both pass a standardized written examination covering six major topic areas, and work for an agency approved to participate in HUD’s housing counseling program. For more information on individual certification requirements and the agency approval process visit the HUD Exchange page regarding Housing Counseling: New Certification Requirements Final Rule For your information, the training is open to all individuals.
Access to the practice exam is available on HUDHousingCounselors.hud.gov. Sign in and go to the Training Center, then click on “Take Practice Exam” to take the practice exam or learn more. Test takers have unlimited free tries on the practice exam.
To complete your account creation on HUDHousingCounselors.hud.gov, you will receive an email to verify your email address. If you do not receive a verification email within several minutes of creating your account, check your Spam or Junk folders to make sure the email was not misdirected.
