Ms. Alexander called the Hotline and stated that she was scheduled to take the Certification Exam at the testing center in Dearborn, MI on 26 February 2019. She claimed that due to inclement weather, the testing center was closed that day and the exam was cancelled. She attempted to contact the exam center at this time to reschedule the exam and get a credit for the cancelled exam, but claimed she was not sucessful in obtaining a credit. At the time, she worked for Americorps and her exam had been purchased using her work email.

Is the certification exam only available to be taken by those presently work as a housing counselor or is it open to anyone?

I'm interested in becoming certified for future employment opportunities as a housing counselor.

To access the exam registration, you must be signed into your account on HUDHousingCounselors.hud.gov.

Once you are signed in, click on the “Exam Center” button on the home page, then click on “Register for Exam.” If you are already signed in, you can access the Register for Exam page directly.

Eligibility – In order to be certified, an individual must both pass a standardized written examination covering six major topic areas and work for an agency approved to participate in HUD’s housing counseling program. In other words, you can take the certification exam without being employed at a HUD-approved agency; however, to become certified you must pass the exam and work for a HUD-approved agency.  

I started reviewing my answers on the knowledge assessment but had to stop. Now I can't get back to it, there is no link.

After signing in to the HUDHousingCounselors.hud.gov site, users are not required to enter username and password credentials at any other point (i.e. registering for an exam).

I can not sign into my account, when I enter my email address for a password reset I receive and error message stating that no email is on file although I have a confirmation email from HudExchange when I enrolled in a webinar a few days ago. Can you help?
